Description

AM hydraulic trailer jack, single leg, 24" stroke

Complete heavy duty single leg hydraulic lifting system that bolts to the center tube of a gooseneck trailer. The AM series is the 4" x 4" square tube in tube jack, and this system lifts 12,000 lbs. The rocker switch control replaces cranking a manual jack, which on a loaded horse or motorsports trailer is the difference between a two minute hook up and a fight.

Manual override: hand pump

If the system loses power, the jack is worked by hand with a pump handle, no drill or power tool needed. To extend, install the handle in the hand pump and pump it; expect 10 to 20 strokes before enough pressure builds and the jack starts to move. To retract, locate the red knurled knob on the directional valve, pull it out and turn it a quarter turn so it stays out, then pump the handle. Return the directional valve to its normal position afterwards, rotating the knob until it snaps back, or the jack can drift down from the stowed position. The replacement handle is part 1776.

Standard and optional equipment

  • Commercial single function pump with manual override hand pump
  • Pump cover
  • Keyed rocker switch and harness standard, which also prevents unauthorized use of the system
  • Wireless remote option, part 7823 for single function jacks
  • Universal mounting brackets included
  • Wire harnesses have a PVC high temperature nylon braid to hold up in the toughest environments

Battery requirement

EQ Systems recommends load testing the battery: it should deliver a minimum of 150 amperes at a minimum of 10.5 VDC for at least 30 seconds. Keep the terminals tight and free of corrosion, and keep the battery charged and maintained to the battery manufacturer's requirements. If the trailer sits between trips, Stay Charge parts 8400 and 8427 charge the trailer battery from the tow vehicle, and solar kit 70486 keeps the jack battery topped up.

Fluid and maintenance

The unit ships without fluid or mounting bolts, and bolt kits are available online. An AM single leg system runs on Dexron III ATF, filled to about one inch below the top of the reservoir with the jacks fully retracted. Remember the level rises as the jacks retract. The reservoir must run with its vented breather cap fitted, not the flush shipping plug, or the jack will operate erratically. EQ Systems recommends owners inspect the system every 12 months, checking that all connections are tight and free from corrosion, particularly the ground to the pump stud and the positive cable to the motor solenoid.

Service parts

The replacement hydraulic cylinder for this jack is part 1179EQ. Cylinders are identified by the jack outer tube size and length, not by the bracket. Switchgear replacements depend on the pump connector fitted to your unit, so verify against the parts identification charts or call EQ Systems at 800-846-9659.
