A manual twist valve is shifted by hand rather than by an electrical coil. It is used on some two leg systems, where the operator selects the function by turning the valve instead of pressing a switch.
How a manual twist valve is operated
Pull the red knurled knob out and turn it a quarter turn. The knob stays in the out position, holding the valve open so the jacks can be run on the manual override. Shift it with your fingers only: do not use pliers or any other tool on the knob.
Return it when you are done
Rotate the knob until it snaps back to the normal position. A manual valve left open lets one or more jacks drift down from the stowed position, which is the single most common cause of a jack found part way down after travel.
