Description

SL 24 heavy duty stacker trailer jack

Heavy duty straight leg jack built for stacker trailers, where the nose weight and the height of the lift are both beyond what a standard trailer jack handles.

Specifications

Lifting capacity 17,000 lbs
Stroke 24 inch stroke cylinder
Cylinder Heavy duty 3 inch cylinder with a 2 inch shaft
Foot pad Large 12 inch foot pad
Pump Commercial single function pump with manual override screw drive
Control Weatherproof single switchgear control with key

Manual override: screw drive

If the system loses power, the jack is driven by hand through the output shaft on the end of the motor. Remove the pump top cover, then the silver sticker on the end of the motor, and drive the override coupler with a drill capable of at least 2000 rpm, using a 1/4 inch (6mm) Allen drive hex key. Take care that the drill does not contact wires or hoses. The drill has to reach 2000 rpm or the pump will not develop enough pressure to move the jack.

Why the heavy cylinder matters

The 3 inch cylinder with a 2 inch shaft and the 12 inch foot pad are what separate this from a standard SL 24. The larger foot spreads the load on soft ground, which matters when a stacker is parked on gravel or grass with the full nose weight on one jack.

Service parts

SL 24 jacks are listed in the Jack Replacement Chart under parts 7848, 7923 and 70217 depending on plate position and rod diameter, with replacement feet 7821 or 70299 and cylinders 3144EQ, 3184EQ or 3144AEQ. Measure the body length, plate position and rod diameter before ordering any service part.

Standard and optional equipment

  • Keyed switch and harness standard, which also prevents unauthorized use of the system
  • Wireless remote option, part 7823 for single function jacks
  • Universal mounting brackets included
  • Switchgear built in house, performance verification tested, braided nylon exterior

Battery requirement

EQ Systems recommends a minimum group 24 RV or marine battery rated at least 100 minutes reserve capacity and 500 cold cranking amps; the higher those numbers the better. Flooded lead acid, gel and AGM types are all suitable. Some lithium batteries cannot deliver the running amperage this system needs, so check with the battery manufacturer before fitting one. If the trailer sits between trips, Stay Charge parts 8400 and 8427 charge the trailer battery from the tow vehicle.

Fluid and maintenance

An SL 24 stacker jack runs on Dexron III ATF, filled to about one inch below the top of the reservoir with the jacks fully retracted. Remember the level rises as the jacks retract. The reservoir must run with its vented breather cap fitted, not the flush shipping plug, or the jack will operate erratically. EQ Systems recommends owners inspect the system every 12 months, checking that all connections are tight and free from corrosion, particularly the ground to the pump stud and the positive cable to the motor solenoid.
