Tighten to 20 lb-ft on reinstallation\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003ch4\u003eTest the hand pump before replacing it\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe hexagonal body should be tight in the housing while the plunger and linkage still pivot. If the hex is loose, unscrew the assembly and inspect the o-ring on the nose, which must be intact with no cuts, along with its backing ring. There is a check valve built into the nose with a small hole in the end and one in the side: you should only be able to blow air through in one direction. If air passes both ways the hand pump is defective and must be replaced.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch4\u003eUsing the hand pump override\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cp\u003eTo extend, install a handle in the hand pump and pump it, expecting 10 to 20 strokes before enough pressure builds. To retract, pull the red knurled knob on the directional valve out and turn it a quarter turn so it stays out, then pump. Return the directional valve to normal afterward or the jack can drift down.
